A forced reset trigger (FRT) is a semi-automatic trigger that fires one round per function of the trigger, then uses a spring to force the trigger to reset positively against your finger. The result is a very fast, controllable rate of fire — without the trigger ever firing more than one round per pull. Rare Breed Triggers makes the best-known FRTs, and this guide covers the current lineup and which one fits your gun.

Which FRT should you buy?

Standard AR-15 or M4? Get the FRT-15L3 (or the C3). Choose curved or flat trigger face to taste. This is the model most buyers want. See our FRT-15 vs FRT-15L3 vs FRT-15C3 comparison.

HK MR223 / MR556? The FRT-MR3 is engineered for that fire control — don't try to force an AR-15 FRT into it.

HK roller-delayed? The FRT-RD3, in SEF or AMBI to match your selector.

SPC9 / GHM9 / GHM45? The FRT-SG3.

What your rifle needs

On the AR-15 models, an FRT is not truly “drop-in” for every build. For reliable reset you generally need a full-auto / M16-profile bolt carrier and a heavier H2 or H3 buffer. Our buffer & BCG guide explains why and how to set it up.

Is it legal?

Following a May 2025 federal settlement, ATF treats FRTs as semi-automatic triggers, not machine guns, and returned seized units. That said, several states restrict or ban them. Read Are forced reset triggers legal in 2026? and verify your state before you order.
